Running for the Cure & Chickbands Giveaway Winners!

This past weekend I had the privileged of running the CIBC Run for the Cure 5km for Breast Cancer Research. I ran this race last year for the first time and really enjoyed it. It is a fun non-competitive race, it is not chipped and you can walk it if you don't want to run. What made this years run so meaningful is that I was running for a close family friend who was recently diagnosed. Sarah from My (Mostly) Healthy Life and I put a team together to do the run, and naturally we called ourselves SWEAT PINK! Our team consisted of 9 amazing men and women of varying running abilities, for some it was their first race EVER! AMAZING! Together we managed to raise $1,115 for Breast Cancer Research!

Sunday was race day, and it was actually calling for rain.... however Mother Nature was definitely on our side that day because the weather was actually beautiful! It was perfect weather for our first timers Rachel, Jenn and technically Dan (even though he did Tough Mudder with me, this was his first regular race). Dan killed it and finished in just over 25 min, since it wasn't chipped I didn't push "too" hard but used my Nike Running App and came in at 29:03, Rachel came in about a minute after me! Which I thought was an amazing time for her first race! Congrats again Rach, not bad for some who "hates running".... that's a direct quote lol.

Another added treat to the day was running into my friend and fellow Sweat Pink and Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador Katy from Fit In Heels! I think it is also important to note that Katy is currently almost 8 months preggers and still RAN the 5km race! One of the many reasons that Katy is my fitness role model.

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is a great opportunity to find different fundraisers for the cause, or help to raise awareness in your community. I will definitely continue to do the CIBC Run for the Cure every year, and I am currently on the hunt for more fundraising events in my community!

Another MAJOR highlight to my weekend that I couldn't leave out was the Ben Harper concert I went to Saturday night. It was without a doubt one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my life (and I have been to a ton of concerts, I have also seen Ben Harper twice before). The concert was held in a small and very intimate theater in Toronto, and Ben dazzled the audience by not only playing at least 10 different instruments, but also by playing for 3 straight hours!!!!

Before the show we grabbed a bottle of red wine and an antipasti platter from a cute little Italian restaurant in Toronto called La Bettola di Terroni. I really liked the atmosphere of this restaurant and they had a great list of Italian wines to choose from. I would definitely like to plan a "paleo cheat day" and grab a plate of gnocchi!
